West African Dance, Israeli Dancing, Participate in Dancing Thru the Decades, Giving Up

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

When I was young, I told my Dad that I did not like to dance. My Dad told me, "You cannot say you do not like to dance. You do not know how to dance. First, learn to dance. Then you can say you do not like to dance."

Lucky for me that I listened to my Dad. Not just for one dance, but for them all. I cannot count the amount of times I have wanted to quit. I am such a slow learner that my friend Gordon said to me about Argentine tango, "What is taking you so long?"

Wanting to quit is not limited to dancing. I write computer software. If anything is frustrating, try debugging code. But, I learned one thing. You do not have to worry. No matter how lost you are, no matter how uncomfortable you feel, as long as you do not quit, everything becomes clear in time. Be glad because that uncomfortable feeling is the sign that you found something that will make you better.

Keep going. Trust your teachers. Be coachable. One day things start to make sense. Then you get better. Then one day you kind of know what you are doing. You are happy that you did not quit. You look back. There is a new person who is lost. You want to tell them that not quitting changed your life. Learning is only a matter of time.

Body Groove with Beth Michelson

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well. I'm back to teaching and I hope you can join in. Here's a little reminder about the class:

Body Groove is a dynamically interactive and creative group dance experience. With great music, I will, as your facilitator, unite everyone in a simple movement or rhythm but you dance it in your own unique way. While exploring a variety of styles and genres you will experience everything from slow, meditative grooves to heart thumping and strength building cardio beats. The perfect recipe to nurture body, mind, heart and soul.

We will be meeting at the south east side of West Side Park on 8 Avenue and 34th Street. You can park at the pool or by the playground or by the trail entrance. Probably better to park in the parking lots. There are public restrooms close by. When you arrive please sign and date the waiver form.

Come out for four Saturdays in October at 10 am. Donation $5 to $10.
