Israeli on Monday, Sign up for Senior Line Dancing, Square Dancing on Tuesdays

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

Andy's Programs

First my programs. My evening SFC Community Ed programs have ended until the fall. I may look for some space to run some evening programs in the mean time, but probably not before June.

Whatever kind of dancing you are doing, join me on Mondays for Israeli Dancing. This is the best for improving your foot work, learning different rhythms and training yourself to keep time. Great music, the best choreography, meet new people, get some exercise and have fun. We have been getting beginners lately, so as long as beginners keep coming, we will dedicate the first part of the evening to them. At B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, starting at 7 pm. Everyone welcome. Just $5, ages 22 and under free.

A new Line Dancing series starts this Thursday at noon at the Senior Center. We have developed a new program for novice dancers. If you are new to dancing, come at noon and the first part of the session we will work with you so you can learn to do the steps. See below to sign up for this series via SFC.

Other Folk Dancing

New to our calendar, though they have been dancing in Gainesville for 40 years is Square Dancing with Lon Ligon. Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4225 NW 34 Street. $4

Other dancing as usual, English with Randy and Annette on Monday, Nia with Sarit on Monday and Friday, and Israeli with Tony on Thursday.

The next Contra Dance is Sunday, June 1 at 4 pm at the Boltin Center. The next International Dancing is Friday, June 6.

There is a Hasidic teaching of Rabbi Simcha Bunem of Pershyscha, who happened to be a lover of dance. Like the rest of us, there were times when he was afraid of making mistakes, so he put a piece of paper in his left pocket on which he wrote, "for my sake the world was created." When he felt timid, he would reach into his left pocket and read what he had written. At other times, when he felt he was losing patience with someone not as experienced as himself, he reached into his right pocket, took out a slip of paper and read "I am but dust and ashes." Remember, balance is the most important skill in dancing.

Happy Dancing,
Andy
