Sign Up for Senior Line Dancing on Thursdays, Contra Dance Next Sunday, Israeli Monday, Yom Kippur

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

Line Dancing at the Senior Center is back to Thursdays at noon. Time to sign up for Line Dancing at the Senior Center for the four weeks from October 2 to 23. Call Jennifer 352-395-5193

Israeli Dancing on Monday at B'nai Israel at 7 pm, $5. We have been having a lot of fun dancing to Yossi Chodin playing the accordian to old folk tunes.

Next weekend is the monthly Sunday afternoon Contra Dance at the Boltin Center.

International Folk Dancers next meet October 12, which is on a Sunday afternoon.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, starts next Friday evening. We afflict our souls by fasting all day, not wearing shoes and not bathing (sounds like afflicting others).

During the break between the morning and afternoon service, in ancient times, single people, all dressed in white, would go out into the fields and mingle. Makes sense. People came from all over, so it was, and is, a rare chance to meet people who you would normally not run into. The first Jewish singles parties? Probably not the first.
