Registration Open for New SFC Dance Series
Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
Israeli Dancing as usual from 7:15 to 8:30 pm this Monday at B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, $5. Line Dancing on Thursday at noon at the Senior Center, week 4 of 4, as usual.
You can now register for Santa Fe College Community Education Spring Dance Classes (www.sfcollege.edu/cied/communityed). Ray and Eileen will be teaching three beginning Ballroom classes, which you can find on the website. I will be teaching five series.
- Line Dancing on Thursdays at noon at the Senior Center. Starts April 2, 2015
- Line Dancing on Tuesdays at 6 pm in Hawthorne for 4 weeks. Starts April 7, 2015
- Slow Partner Dancing for beginners on Tuesdays at 7 pm in Hawthorne for 4 weeks. Starts Arpil 7, 2015
- Swing Dancing for Beginners on Thursdays at 6 pm at Gainesville High School for 6 weeks. Starts April 9, 2015
- Lindy Swing Dancing for people with some experience on Thursdays at 7:10 pm at Gainesville High School for 6 weeks. Starts April 9, 2015
One of the dances is Lindy, the original swing dance, like East Coast Swing only better, more versatile, no bouncing, more improvisational, more musical, more expressive. This will be at a medium, easy to do tempo. You will learn the basics of Lindy. You will learn swing outs and how to communicate with your partner so you can improvise to the music. This is for people who have at least some experience dancing with a partner and who can keep time to music. You do not need swing dance experience if you have some other dance experience, such as ballroom, salsa or tango. If you are a West Coast Swing dancer, this is a great chance for you to expand your repertoire.
There will be a Beginning Swing Dance series suitable for people who have never danced before as well as people in the beginning level of dancing. You will learn the basics of getting started with swing dancing.
There will also be a Slow Partner Dancing series for people who have never danced before and are apprehensive of dancing. This is a four week series in Hawthorne in which you will learn some simple steps you can use at social functions like weddings or at a bar or club, where you do not need the complexity of swing or ballroom dancing. For latin music you will learn Merengue and for American type popular music, simple walking steps.
Happy Dancing,
Andy

Dance Quotes
I do not quite know how to respond to people who say that I dance like my genitals are on fire. I usually just blush and brush aside their flattery. ~ Jarod Kintz, This Book is Not For Sale
