Fire Dance, SFC Community Ed, Israeli Parner Dances, Nia Workshop

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

We had a lot of fun last week donig energetic Israeli Partner Dances. Israeli Dancing tonight as usual at 7:15 pm at B'nai Israel. Lately we have been doing circle dances for an hour or so and then partner dances for the next 30 to 45 minutes. We adjust the structure to who is there.

Registration is open for Santa Fe College Community Education dance sessions starting the beginning of September. Register here www.sfcollege.edu/cied/communityed. You have a nice variety to choose from. Two 6-week sessions on Thursday nights of Argentine Tango at 6 pm and Swing at 7 pm at Gainesville High School with Andy (me). Ballroom Dancing for Couples with Ray and Eileen. Tap Dancing with Chaya Heller. Belly Dancing with Marjorie Malerk. Acro Balance and Brazilian Samba and Forro with Corey Souza.

Saturday is a Nia, Barre and Pilates Workshop at My Yoga Connection. See the calendar for details. The following Saturday is a Fire Dance Workshop at The Primitive Studio.

Randy and Annette came to my swing and hustle classes for years before starting their dance group and they apply the same principles. This is from Annette’s English Country Dance newsletter this week.

Dear Dancers,

Just a reminder. Please only guide new dancers with eyes and gestures. There are so many reasons: it's disorienting to have someone move you around; it's demeaning; in the next round they still don't have their own sense of movement; it might even hurt someone. The best way is without words, or if it is necessary, only one or two words. Remember the caller is really doing the explaining and it's not helpful for someone who is new to have two people explaining the same thing at the same time.

Most people do such a great job at this. And thank you all for being so welcoming and encouraging new dancers!
