Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

Dancing as usual this week for the various groups. See the dance calendar.

Israeli Dancing with Andy this Monday at 7:30 pm at B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, around the left side in the social hall. $5 per family, college age free. We will start exactly at 7:30. I have had request for partner dances. Will figure out how to get them in. Will also figure out how to get in the dances for Horati (see below). We will start experimenting with different formats to see what works best for us.

Line Dancing at the Senior Center with Andy this Thursday at noon. Sign up via Santa Fe College Community Education.

How to Do Every Dance Whether You Know the Steps or Not

In my social dancing group, people ask if they are better off concentrating on one dance, to learn that one dance well, rather than learning more dances. If you want to have fun, you are better off learning more dances. The reason being, you have more fun when you dance. When you are sitting, watching everyone else dance, you are not having as much fun as when you dance.

While there are reasons to get better, having more fun is not one of them. A better dancer is not having more fun than a less skilled dancer. Sometimes better dancers have less fun, if they allow their judgmentalism to grow with their skill. There are fewer people available to meet their expectations.

Friday night I went to International Folk Dancing for the first time in a long time. The dancing went from 7 pm to 10 pm. I knew a handful of the few dozen dances they did. I danced every dance. I was the only one who danced every dance.

One guy asked me, "Did you know that dance?". I told him that was the first time I had ever heard the music. He said, "That was amazing, how did you learn the dance so fast".

I said, "There is a trick."

He asked, "What is that?"

I told him, "I do not try to do the steps."

Happy Dancing,
Andy
