Israeli Dancing Playlists, New Line Dancing Series

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,

Lots of folk dancing in town. Check the dance calendar for Contra, Belly, English Country, International Folk, Irish, Square and more.

We are Israeli Dancing with Andy this Monday October 22 from 7:30 to 9 pm at B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd. We will do Ira Weisburd's dance Dmaot Shel Ahava that we learned in his workshop. We will take a two week break, because I will be out of town. We will start back again Monday November 12. At B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, $5 per family, students free

Sign up for the next Line Dancing at the Senior Center with Andy starting Thursday November 15 at noon, week 1 of 3, via Santa Fe College Community Education under Seniors.

For the sheer joy of moving to music, nothing beats Israeli dancing.

Following are some of our playlists with dances from our repertoire. There are more that I will list when I get a chance. People in our group, excluding me, know around 200 dances. We can do about 20 dances an hour, if we dance straight through without taking time to review. We can only do about 20, at a maximum 30, dances per night. We can get through our repertoire maybe in half a year, that is play each dance at least once.

We adjust the playlist to who is there. If we have more beginners, we do easier dances longer. If we have visitors, we do more dances that the visitors are likely to know. We review dances as needed, just enough for people to follow.

The easier dances are at the beginning. If you are new, be sure to try those. Follow someone's body, not their feet. If you look down, you fall down. Do not worry about the steps. People that go Contra dancing and Square dancing can dance their very first time, because they do worry about what their feet are doing. Same with children. When I teach children, they can do every dance, because they do not try to do the steps. They just copy where you are going. You can do the same. Listen to the music. Follow your neighbor. Have fun.

We do a great variety of dances to a wide variety of music. There will be dances you like more than others. Some dances that you may not like, others may want to do. If you do not like a dance, or you are worn out, or stressed out, feel free to take a break. Get some water. Calm down, regroup and refresh for the next round of dances.

We warm up with dances from our classic set, typically about five dances, for ten to 15 minutes. We rotate through these classic dances, so you stay familiar with all of them.

We do the dances we have learned recently every week, so you can imprint them. Dances that we learned just before the current set, we do frequently, if not every week, also so they stay with you.

We rotate in dances from the rest of our repertoire throughout the year. We may do the same older dance for a while so you can recall the dance.

If we have beginners, I will schedule a time for instruction for the beginners. Beginners should dance twice a week to get up to speed. If as a beginner you only dance once a week, your progress will be slow. You can dance with us on Mondays. You can dance with Tony or Julieta on Thursdays.
