Some groups are inching back into dancing. You can now dance in person Irish, Israeli and Line in town.

This week and next week, we are easing back into Israeli dancing. After that, if you are interested in Beginning Israeli Circle or Beginning Israeli Partner Dancing let me know. We will try to schedule a series.

The Israeli dance world mourns the passing of our good friend Ruthy Slann. Many of you danced with Ruthy. Thanks to Tony Arroyo, Ruthy was a regular in Gainesville. Ruthy and Dany Benshalom were the guest instructors at Kol Simcha's nearly yearly workshops here. Ruthy and Dany took many groups to Israel to the Carmiel Festival. We have Ruthy to thank for the last dance we were learning before Covid, Tzel Umei Beer, which we will continue to learn. Before Covid, I went to Ira's group in Delray Beach. Ruthy had recently moved to South Florida. Ruthy requested this dance Tzel Umei Beer, one of her favorites, a wonderful dance to gorgeous music. I met Ruthy in 1993 at Camp Blue Star. From Ira Weisburd - The Israeli Dance World will never be the same with the sudden passing of our dear friend, Ruthy Slann. She was not only our friend, but a friend to hundreds of Israeli and International Dancers around the world. We’ve known Ruthy for more than 40 years and a more loyal friend and supporter of Israeli dancing would be hard to find these days. Henry and I just attended a very moving funeral graveside service here in S. Florida with a small gathering of family and friends. We will miss her larger than life persona and exuberance for life. Her courage & strength throughout her battle with cancer was amazing. I’ve enclosed the information on this Wednesday’s Memorial for Ruthy on Zoom and encourage everyone who knew her to tune in.

Dear Dancers,

It is with a very broken heart that I share with you the passing of our beloved Ruthy Slann (z''l). She passed away around 4pm on June 5th surrounded by her family after her battle with cancer at the young age of 75.

She has touched the hearts of thousands of dancers over the last several decades, between several countries, and all age groups. She will be deeply missed by so many.

We will honor her life and undying love for Israeli Folk Dance on Wednesday, June 9th at 1PM ET, 12PM CT, 11AM MT, 10AM PT, 8PM Israel, 6PM GMT.

The funeral will be held on June 6th privately with only immediate family. As of now there won't be a Shiva.

Please help me honor the life of one of the closest people in my life by attending her memorial.

Here's what you need to know:

1) If you have any pictures or short video clips of Ruthy you would like to share, please send them to me (Meliss) at macholatlanta@gmail.com by Monday June 7th. If you have a lot, please use Google Drive (not dropbox) and send me the link. They will be used during the Memorial.

2) The Ruthy Slann Scholarship Fund will be used to help dancers attend camps and enjoy the love of Rikudei Am. I will announce how you can donate during the memorial and will send a followup email with the information.

3) You may choose to send condolences as well.
