Subject: Thelma Boltin Center - Community Engagement

Hello Thelma Boltin Stakeholder!

My name is Peter McNiece and I work for the City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Department. We are preparing for a major renovation of the Thelma Boltin Center and are reaching out to you as a past user of that facility to solicit your input on the proposed design and building layout. I have attached the latest concept drawing from the architect. Note that this will likely be revised after feedback from the community and the Historic Preservation Board.

We’d like to know what specific needs your group has so we can try to accommodate as many users as possible. In order to assist the architects with their design and the building’s staffers with programming expectations, I ask that you please respond to this following questions when you get a chance:

  1. What activities did you engage in at the Thelma A. Boltin Center? How often did these activities occur?
  2. What improvements would you like to see at the Thelma A. Boltin Center to better serve your groups’ needs? Please describe the size and type of space that you would like to utilize. Explaining your specific needs as they relate to audio visual equipment, flooring, lighting, acoustics, technology, kitchen usage, room sizes, rental rates, etc. will be a tremendous help to the architectural design team. We’d like to know what amenities are necessary in order for your group to continue utilizing the facility versus which amenities would be nice to have.
  3. How large is your group and what is the proposed frequency that you anticipate utilizing the future Thelma A. Boltin Center? When would your group typically be interested in utilizing the facility - evenings and weekends or daytime use?
  4. What other activities or programs should be offered at the Thelma A. Boltin Center, assuming that space and/or facilities are available?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the area immediately surrounding the Thelma A. Boltin Center?
  6. Do you have any other suggestions for the new facility and surrounding grounds?

You are invited to join me in The Long Gallery at the Thomas Center Building A on Monday, August 22nd at 5:30pm to discuss your group’s specific needs. I will also provide an update on any proposed design revisions at that time. Please let me know if you plan to attend.

In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact me if you want to discuss this project in more detail. Thank you!
