Gainesville Ocala Swing and Social Dance Newsletter 2014-01-31

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

You have dances to go to every weekend for the next few weeks.

Tonight, Friday, UF Swing Club is having their regular dance social at the Unified Training Center.

Saturday night, Cathy Jean teaches a West Coast Swing lesson at 7:30 before the start of Josh's monthly dance at The Movement, 1212 N Main Street, next to Publix. Lesson at 7:30, dancing at 8:30. $15

Sunday afternoon is the monthly Contra dance, with a Vintage Waltz lesson at 2:30, Contra lesson at 3:30 and dancing from 4 to 7, at the Boltin Center, 516 NE 2 Avenue. $8

The following weekend, Saturday, February 8, is Argentine Tango Milonga El Abrazo. Plan to come to a lovely dance, even if just to watch. $10, watching is free

Ray and Eileen have their Ballroom Dance the same night at By Ear Musician.

The Friday after that is Valentine's Day, February 14, on which Richard is holding a Swing Dance at the Boltin Center with Nick and the Swingtastics.

A number of years ago, my cousin gave me a little device that counts the number of steps you take. He said you need to take 10,000 steps a day for good heart health. Since then, I cannot tell you how many times I have seen the initiative for 10,000 steps a day. Think it was in the Gainesville Sun a few weeks ago. The average dance speed is 120 beats per minute, which is two steps per second or 7,200 steps in an hour of dancing, a long way towards your daily 10,000 steps to heart health, plus you have fun, socialize and learn a skill at the same time. Why walk when you can dance.

Happy Dancing,
Andy
