A Dose of Humility, UF Dance Performance, Ballroom Dance

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Tonight is week 5 of 6 for our Beginning Argentine Tango dancers. Enough people have expressed interest in continuing, so I will make arrangements for a place for us to continue our Tango exploration. Whether you are in this session or not, if you have not already, let me know if you would like to join us in April.

Tonight is week 5 of 6 of our Beginning Swing series. In the Spring we will have a Beginning West Coast Swing series offered via SFC, so you can continue your Swing journey then. This will be suitable for both novices and beginning dancers with some experience.

This is the GODS big Contra Dance weekend, but if you have not signed up already, even the waiting list is full, so Saturday night, head out to Ray and Eileen's Ballroom Dance Pary.

Next weekend is Josh's monthly West Coast Swing dance as well as the first Sunday Contra dance. The next Argentine Tango Milonga El Abrazo is Saturday, March 8.

Also, a heads up, Steve and Sarah are hosting an Argentine Tango workshop and milonga with Oscar Casas from Buenos Aries on Sunday March 30. We have not had one of these for a while, so plan to go while you can.

In the Spring, we will have a new, dance series suitable for people who have never danced before and experienced dancers as well. This will be Mainstream Western Style Square Dancing offered via SFC. You will learn the 60 calls that make up the Mainstream program and allow you to dance at Mainstream Western Style Square Dances. This does not require any dancing skills, just following directions, which anyone that can walk, or shuffle, can do.

The UF Dance Department has their yearly performance in which some of our community and UF Tango Dancers are performing. The performance is ongoing now until February 28. There is a matinee this Sunday at 2 pm. Seems like a good time to go. Otherwise, you can go in the evenings at 7:30 pm.

I was dancing with someone at Richard's Swing Dance on Friday, having a good time, getting into the music and all, when she said to me, "Do you know the basic steps of Swing?"

I said, "Yeah."

She said, "You should take some lessons. They will help you."

No doubt. A dose of humility can be a good thing.
