Know the Basics of Balance, Samba Workshop with Helio Faria from Brazil, Josh WCS Dance, Andrea Tango Milonga, Sunday Contra, River City Swing

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Great weekend for dancing. Saturday Helia Faria from Brazil is holding a Samba Workshop at the Movement at noon. Saturday night come out for Josh's West Coast Swing dance at the Movement, with a lesson with Paul Fairbanks at 7:30, $15.

Sunday is the monthly afternoon Contra Dance. Sunday night is Andrea's monthly Argentine Tango Milonga Papirusa.

In early September, I will be starting up a few beginner series via Santa Fe College Community Education. You will be able to sign up towards the end of August. These are beginner sessions suitable for novice dancers, people who have never danced before, beginners who have taken a beginning session and want to reinforce what they have learned. Experienced dancers are welcome to attend Tango and West Coast Swing for free to assist. The sessions are: (1) Beginning Israeli on Mondays at 7 pm, 4 weeks, (2) Beginning Line Dancing on Tuesdays in Hawthorne at 6 pm, 4 weeks, (3) Beginning Argentine Tango on Thursdays at 6 pm, 6 weeks, and (4) Beginning West Coast Swing on Thursdays at 7:10 pm, 6 weeks.

Know the Basics

You know from this newsletter, I have been doing a lot of beginning classes. I also have been doing a lot of private lessons. I also take lessons and practice on my own. No matter what dance, and what level, it is suprising how the same principles come to the front. Maybe that should not be surprising, but I can remember when I started dancing, there just seemed like so much, and every dance seemed so different.

Now, whether I am a student or a teacher, I find myself repeating the same things everywhere. The most important is balance. Pay attention to the basics about balance. That will help you more than anything.
