Four Dances this Weekend - Swing, Contra, Tango, You Can Learn a Lot from Line Dancing

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Four Dances this Weekend

You can watch all four for free. If you are new to dancing, this is a good chance to see what is going on.

  1. Friday Lindy with UF Swing Club, lesson from 8 to 9 pm, at the UTC, free
  2. Saturday West Coast Swing at the Movement, 7:30 to 8:30 lesson, dancing until 11:30, $15, $10 students
  3. Sunday Contra dance at the Boltin Center, 4 to 7, $8
  4. Sunday Argentine Tango milonga at the Movement, 7 to 11 pm, $10

You Can Learn a Lot Line Dancing

At River City Swing this weekend, they honorerd Mark Traynor with their first Trailblazer award, for his contribution to building the West Coast Swing community in Florida. Mark started Floor Play in Orlando more than 25 years ago and other chapters have followed in a number cities.

Mark taught a workshop titled Eurythmics for West Coast Swing, which was about footwork. He said, "the swing dancers look down on line dancing, because it is not partner dancing, but you can learn a lot from line dancing."

And from Israeli dancing too. You have heard me say that for a long time.

If you want to line or folk dance, join me on Mondays for Israeli dancing at B'nai Israel, Tuesdays line dancing in Hawthorne, or Thursdays line dancing at the Senior Center. See the calendar for other folk dancing, including English country, international, Irish set, more Israeli and Nia holistic movement.
