Do You Want to Dance on Thursday or Fridays? Advanced Contra, Pushing and Pulling

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Do you want to dance on Thursdays, some Fridays or some Sundays? I am looking into space for those nights. If you are interested in dancing on those nights, let me know what you would like to do? Which days are best? Weekly or just a couple times a month? Do you want both classes and dancing? What types of dances? Thinking about Hustle, Lindy, Salsa, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango others are possible too.

This Sunday afternoon is the Advanced Contra Dance at the Boltin Center at 4 pm. Come early for social waltz at 2:45. If you have not been going to the Contra Dances lately, you are missing out. They have wonderful live dance bands, the best dance space in Gainesville, a party atmosphere, you can socialize with a bunch of people and have a great time.

Next weekend is UF Argentine Tango for the Cure Workshops and Dance Socials to benefit the American Cancer Society, with special guests Daniela Roig and Herman Prieto from Buenos Aires by way of Chicago. www.facebook.com/events/601447059965712

Also next weekend is Josh's 1st Saturday of the month West Coast Swing Dance with Danielle Blouin.

At a dance social, I was dancing swing with a woman who was pulling on me. Later on she surprised me, when we danced rumba together, she did not push or pull at all. Then I danced a cha cha with her and again, she moved as light as a feather with no pulling. I asked why she danced cha cha so beautifully and pulled so much in swing, was she taught that way? She said no, she said it was because in swing, the guys pull on her.

Another woman was at the same dance for the first time. I danced the first dance of the night with her and she was not pulling on me. At the end of the evening, I danced with her again and she was pulling on me. I said something to her and she asked why are there so many different techniques? Everyone had been telling her something different. I said the first question you need to ask yourself is do you want to move under your own power or do you want to push and pull to get around? She said move under her own power of course. I answered, if you move under your own power, there is only one technique, you must maintain your own balance. If you push and pull, then everyone is going to push and pull a different amount at different times, so everyone has their own technique for every move.

Happy Dancing,
Andy
