Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Let me know if you would like to learn Swing or Tango on Monday nights. We have a small, semi-private group going with some openings. The schedule for Monday is:

6:30 pm : Swing, $15 includes the whole night
7:15 pm: Israeli, $5 for Israeli only
8:30 pm: Tango, $10 includes Israeli

Tonight, there is the monthly Friday Argentine Tango Milonga Papirusa at the Movement at 8 pm.

Saturday night is Summer Latin Nights at the Vida Lounge starting at 10:30 pm at 7 W University Avenue.

This weekend is the monthly Sunday Contra Dance at 7 pm at the Boltin Center with Waltzing at 2:30.

Much appreciation to Richard Nalli for promoting social dancing in Gainesvsille for the last several years. Richard recently announced he is retiring from organizing classes at the Boltin Center

When I moved back to Gainesville a decade ago, about the only place to social dance was at Maria Alvarez' Imperial Dance Studio. A couple of years later, Richard began organizing dance programs at the Boltin Center. Richard had the first weekly swing classes outside UF and started holding the first swing dance socials.

Richard provided an opportunity for a lot of people to learn how to social dance. I believe Richard's efforts provided the base for our current, enjoyable swing scene. Thanks to Richard, and others, we can hold swing dances in Gainesville without depending on out-of-towners. That is the most critical step in having a thriving swing dance community.

Organizing dance programs and promoting dancing is a lot of work. We were lucky to have Richard do it for us for so long. If you want to show your appreciation, you can send Richard an email at mostlyswinggainesville@yahoo.com.
