Gainesville Ocala Swing and Social Dance Newsletter 2015-04-30

Week 4 of 6, Tango, Salsa, Swing and Contra

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Tonight is week 4 of 6 for the beginning Swing dancers, meeting at Gainesville High School from 6 to 7 pm for class. Afterwards, for those that want, we will have dance practice so that everyone gets a chance to dance with everyone else.

You have a packed weekend of events coming up. Friday night is Argentine Tango Milonga Papirusa at the Movement with a lesson at 8 pm, dancing at 8:30, at the Movement. $10, free to watch. Also Friday night the Gator Salsa Club has a social at Corry Village at 9:30 pm. Check out this TED talk by their founder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7djdmA8yixs

Saturday night Cathy Jean is teaching at Josh's monthly West Coast Swing Dance, at the Movement at 7:30 pm. Fair or not, I like to say I started this West Coast Swing group and the first Saturday of the month dance. Back in 2005, Cathy taught some of the early West Coast Swing sessions with me. Doors open at 7:30. Lesson from 7:45 to 8:45. Dancing until 11:30 pm. $15, $10 students, free to watch.

The monthly Sunday afternoon Contra Dance is this weekend at 4 pm at the Boltin Center. Come early, at 2:45 pm, for Waltzing. If you do not know how to waltz, someone will show you how.

This is the last weeknd to see the show "The Two Musketeers", at the Hippodrome. A member of our dance community, Tiza Garland, is participating in the production and choreographed the fight scenes.

I was at the Opening Night performance of "The Two Musketeers", and not only was it an excellent production, it had some of the best sword-fight choreography I have ever seen on stage. I believe Tiza was the choreographer. ~ Erin

If you know LaQianya, or are looking for something to do, Saturday at 1 pm, her daughter Sasha with other voice students is giving a recital at Living Faith Fellowship, 5510 NW 39 Avenue.

Happy Dancing,
Andy
