Ladies One-and-a-Half Turn, Juke Joint Blues Dance, West Coast Swing Dance, Salsa Social, Contra, Tango, Vintage Waltz, Swing and Sway

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Monday evenings we continue to explore the ladies one-and-a-half-turn in Swing Dancing. The last two weeks the ladies learned to turn to their left, this week they will learn to turn to their right. See below for a review. Contact me if you would like to join us.

Lots of dancing this weekend with at least two dances each day, starting Friday with a West Coast Swing and Country Western Dance Social with Josh at the Movement, doors open at 7:30, beginner friendly lesson at 7:45. The Gator Salsa Club Dance Social with Bachata Lesson meets at Corry Village at 9 pm.

Saturday night is the monthly Contra Dance at the Boltin Center at 7 pm, Argentine Tango Y Te with David and Thuy (david.chayes@gmail.com) and the sometimes monthly July Juke Joint Blues Dance at Market Street at 10 pm.

Saturday there is a Vintage Waltz Brunch at 10:30 am at the Movement and Swing and Sway Afternoon Dance is at the Senior Center at 3 pm (confirm). There is an Ocala Dance Social with a lead and follow concepts class at 5 pm, Waltz lesson at 6 pm and dancing at 7 pm, at PM Respiratory, 3306 SW 26 Avenue, Suite 402, $5. www.facebook.com/events/1636371093270558

Ladies One-and-a-Half Turn

We have been exploring the ladies one-and-a-half turn in our Monday sessions.

For ladies, things to remember:

• Stay on your line
• Self prep as you step forward, use contra body movement, turn your upper body towards your forward knee
• Turn half way on each step
• Turn on your own without help from the leader
• Keep your hand on the leaders hand without pressure, do not push, pull or hang on to the connection
• Turn right on your right foot, left on your left foot
• Turn over your standing leg, without traveling forward while turning
• Look over your shoulder in the direction you are turning so your head turns first, then each part of your body turns, unraveling downward. This is not spotting, though we may look at spotting this week.
• Your choice, you can turn half way, one-and-a-half, two-and-a-half, that is you can turn until the leader stops your turn or until you have had enough of turning

For the leader:

• Signal the lady to turn by moving the connection horizontally. Lifting the hand is not a signal to turn.
• Signal horizontally across the lady's line of dance. Signally along the lady's line of dance is a signal to go forward or back, not turn.
• Only prep the lady when necessary, such as when you would otherwise have to reach across her body to signal a turn
• Time your signal appropriately. Give her enough time to turn so she can turn right when stepping on her right foot and left when stepping on her left foot
• We looked at giving the woman a one-and-a-half turn to her left in the side pass and the side pass with an under arm turn
