Dancing in Ocala, Tango Milonga, Contra Weekend, Art Walk, Beginning Swing and Tango

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

In Ocala this weekend, Friday night is a Ballroom Class and Practice Party with Britanny Cox at Dancin Around Studio, 3960 South Pine Avenue, $10. Contact Melissa McNichols, 352-690-6637. Sunday is West Coast Swing with a beginner class at 5 pm, intermediate at 6 and dancing at 7 at PM Respiratory, 3306 SW 26 Ave, Suite 402, $5. Contact Carol Smith. Confirm both sessions before going.

In Gainesville, the UF Swing Club meets Friday night at the UTC. Saturday night Argentine Tango Milonga Papirusa meets at the UTC. Also Saturday night, there is a Ballroom Dance at By Ear musician. In Melrose, there is a Contra Dance.

Beginning Swing and Tango return with week 3 of 6 at Gainesville High School on Thursday October 1.

This Friday night, there is an Art Walk in downtown Gainesville from 7 to 9 pm. Wander around town, visit some galleries and have some fun. Stop by Vine Bread and Pasta, 627 N Main Street, and support one of our local tango teacher's exhibit, photography by Alper Ungor. There will be a happy hour and live music. A heads up, next weekend there will be two days of Contra, Waltz and English Country Dancing, along with the regular Sunday afternoon Contra Dance. You can attend all or part. www.facebook.com/events/949027575143688

You can now register for the GODS Contra Weekend 2016, which is held February 26 to 28. This sells out early, way early, so register now if you think you want to go. This is an all or nothing event. In my line dancing class this morning, we practised a Mambo step. First I showed them the step, which they all got, sort of. Then I put on the music. After a couple of minutes, I noticed half of them were standing there watching me. So I stopped the music and told them, "do something". Dancing is experiential. You can learn what to do by watching, but you can only learn to do by doing.
