Rena's Grand Opening, Whip Turns, Register Now, New Dancers, Beginning Salsa and Swing, Line Dancing

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

The Grand Opening of Rena's Ballroom is this Saturday night from 7 to 11 pm at 720 NW 23 Avenue, across the street and one block west of Ward's. Lots of goodies at this special event. Come on out, and years from now brag about being at the Grand Openinng.

Saturday night is the monthly evening Contra Dance at the Boltin Center. If you go, afterwards, stop by Rena's, not far away. Also Saturday night is Swing Theory at Market Street, for free, at 10 pm. If you go, stop by Rena's first. Sunday the Vintage Waltz Brunch is at Rena's Ballroom at 10:30.

From noon to 6 pm on Sunday is the Florida Fun Ballroom Dannce Mini Match in Ocala at the Circle Square Cultural Center, with a show and fun competitions. Also Bachata in Ocala from 3 to 5:30 pm at C4 Academy and West Coast Swing in Ocala at 5:30 pm at PM Respiratory.

Josh is not having his Friday West Coast Swing dance tonight, instead, Wayne is having a party at his house, call 352-281-6093 for details. Thuy and David are not having an Argentine Tango milonga this month, which normally would be this Saturday night, but will in February. Go to Rena's Ballroom instead. The Swing and Sway Afternoon Dance is next Sunday instead of this Sunday.

The UF Swing Club and UF Tango Club are back with their regular sessions.

Reminder Beginning Ballroom Dance classes on Tuesday with Ray and Eileen at 7 pm at Rena's Ballroom.

Dancing with Andy

If you are a Beginner for West Coast Swing and can meet early, around 5:30 on Mondays, contact me about joining our group.

Our regular group meets from 6:15 to 7:15 pm on Mondays, with practice time beforehand. This Monday we start a new 6-week series on West Coast Swing Whip Turns. You will learn how to lead and follow the difference between 6-count and 8-count movements. If you have danced any kind of swing before, you may have wondered how to communicate the difference between 6-count and 8-count figures, in other words, how to lead and follow walk-walk verses a triple-step. In this series, you will learn how to do that without any pushing and pulling.

Beginning Salsa and Beginning Swing start this Thursday at Gainesville High School. Register now via Santa Fe College Community Education at www.sfcollege.edu/cied/communityed.

Line Dancing at the Senior Center starts Thursday January 21. Register at the SFC website via the link above.

Happy Dancing and Happy New Year,
Andy
