Introduction to Social Dancing, Community Ed Registration, Ballroom Dance, Argentine Tango Friday

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

You can now register for Fall B Santa Fe College Community Education Classes starting in November by calling 352-395-5193 or visit www.sfcollege.edu/cied/communityed

One of those classes is Introduction to Social Dancing. This is a five week series in which you will learn two or three or so dances you can do on social occasions. For example, last week there was Waltzing at the Thomas Center as part of an art exhibit. If you can waltz a little bit, you can have fun at an event like that. The dances you will learn will be determined by those attending. Dances will be something like Cha Cha, Contra, Country Two Step, Hustle 4 Count, Fortrot, Merengue, Nightclub Two Step, Swing Single Step, Square, Rumba, Waltz.

Tonight Friday, if it has not been canceled, there is an Argentine Tango Seminar with Gerardo and Nico at Flow Space, 117 NW 16 Ave. Beginners at 7 pm from 7 to 10 pm. 7 pm Beginners. 8 pm Intermediate. 9 pm Practica. $10 for one class, $15 for two classes. $10 just for the practica. Practica included with the class.

Saturday night Ballroom Dance with Ray and Eileen at Rena's from 8:00 to 10:30. $10

Dancing with Andy

We are dancing this Monday October 10 Hustle and Swing from 5:30 to 7:15 pm at B'nai Israel. We will then miss two Mondays and dance again on Monday October 31.

We are dancing this Thursday October 13 Argentine Tango and Swing from 6 to 8 pm at B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd. We may stay late for social dancing after class. Come by and join us for free at 8 pm. You can come earlier and watch. We normally meet around the left side in the social hall. If we are not there, we will be around the right side in the community room.

Cost is $15 per night per person. Let me know if you want to join us.

Don't Think

In Andrea's Tango class, we were doing exercises for disassociation. Andrea said you have to connect your shoulder to the opposite hip. When you walk, rather than twist, you use your core to spiral.

Tatiana was confused, as most of us were. She asked, "So when I go forward, I turn my left shoulder, no, um, is it my right, wait, no. Do I?"

I said, "Don't think."
