Good Weekend for Dancing, West Coast, Waltz, Contra

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

Saturday night is Josh's West Coast Swing Dance with Tommy and Renee, a professional couple who will teach a musicality lesson on how to have more fun with your dancing. Musicality lessons are the best. $15, $10 students.

Sunday afternoon from 2 to 3:30 pm is a special Vintage Waltz Workshop with Donna Hunt prior to the Contra Dance at 4 pm at the Boltin Center. Only $13 for both, $8 for ages 15 to 25. Sweet.

Dancing with Andy

Let me know if you have any requests for a dance series in the spring. We are planning the schedule with Santa Fe College Community Education. Can be any type of dancing, partner dancing, folk dancing, whatever.

We have several new beginners on Mondays and Thursdays. If you want to take up any, or better still, all of these dances, you can still join us for fun evenings.

Monday night we do Hustle and Lindy Swing, followed by Israeli Dancing.

Thursday night we do Argentine Tango, Salsa and West Coast Swing.

No experience needed. No partner needed. We do rotate, but you are not required to rotate. Let me know if you want to join us. Reply to this email or call 352-327-3672.

Thursdays February 9 week 3 of 6
6 pm Argentine Tango
7 pm Salsa
8 pm West Coast Swing

Cost per person includes all dances on that night
- $15 per night drop-in, or
- $50 for the 4 Mondays, or
- $50 for the 4 remaining Thursdays, or
- $90 for all 8 evenings

The More You Dance the More You Save - if you are dancing somewhere else, or you are student age, or financial considerations are keeping you from joining us, contact me for discounted pricing.

More is Better

Some people ask me if they should concentrate on one dance rather than learning multiple dances. In my opinion, more is better, and more is more fun.

When I lived in South Florida, I took a lot of Salsa classes. When I went out dancing at a Salsa club, I could only dance with the women in my class. We were learning a lot of moves, but not good skills. I could not lead any of the other ladies into the moves that I had learned.

When I moved back to Gainesville, I learned many dances, Ballroom (13 different dances), Lindy, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, Contra and so on. The one dance I did not do in Gainesville was Salsa.

After some time, I was visiting South Florida. I went to a Salsa club. The lady I was dancing with said, "You are a really good Salsa dancer."

I shrugged her off. I hardly had danced Salsa since I left South Florida. I know when I dance Salsa, I look like I am playing basketball.

She stopped dancing, looked at me and said, "I dance Salsa all the time. I dance with all the best Salsa dancers. You are a really good Salsa dancer."

Somehow, dancing all these other dances, my Salsa had gotten better. Go figure. Dance whenever you can, whatever you can. More is better.
