Once Is Not Enough, Swing, Salsa, Tango Series Starts Thursday, Social Dancing at Noon

Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,

If you are trying to learn how to dance, going once a week is not enough. The problem is you miss weeks. You may end up only going twice a month. You forget what you learned. You spend your time reviewing what you did the time before. Progress is slow. You get discouraged. You quit before you learn to dance.

There are two solutions to this problem. One is dance more often. Going twice a week is enough to learn how to dance. If you miss a couple times during a month, you still would have gone several times. You will reinforce what you learn and learn something new. You will feel you are accomplishing something. You will learn to dance.

If you are not ready to go twice a week, find some type of dancing that is easy enough that you can experience success at a dance. I recommend beginners try Contra dancing. Contra dancing is easy enough to do your first time. We have Contra dances twice a month. They are Gainesville's biggest dance party. People are friendly, non-judgmental and accomodating to newcomers. There is live music and a beautiful dance hall. You can drop in when you have a chance. You will start to learn how to dance. You will have fun dancing. You will stay connected to the dance community.

Swing, Salsa and Argentine Tango - 5 week series for both new and experienced dancers. Starts this Thursday April 19 at 6, 7 and 8 pm at B'nai Israel. $50 for the series (save $25), or $15 per night, or $5 students
Line Dancing at the Senior Center - 4 week series. Starts this Thursday April 19 at noon at the Senior Center. Sign up via Santa Fe College Community Education.
Social Dancing at the Senior Center - 3 week series. Starts Tuesday April 24 at noon at the Senior Center. Sign up via Santa Fe College Community Education.

This Friday night are three dances.

Salsa Mundial has their monthly social at Rena's Ballroom at 9 pm with a lesson in Cha Cha.

The UF Swing Club Spring Formal is at the Boltin Center at 8 pm. $5

There is a Contra Dance in Melrose with Wild Asparagus at the Dancing Fish, along with Contra Dances on Saturday and Sunday. While you are out there, you can picnic, hike, kayak and take advanatage of the Lake Santa Fe.
